The long and sordid history of artificial intelligence is that it often doesn’t quite work.
However, robots cannot climb stairs unless they can be controlled remotely. Autonomous cars can sometimes drive recklessly, and they can also drive by themselves. Amazon Alexa may even be a worry for many.
A new bot I tried has made me appreciate artificial intelligence again.
Perhaps you’ve heard of ChatGPT by now. It’s a major hit, so much so that the bot was not available to use recently due to over-interest.
I’m wonderfully impressed. Because I cover social media, I decided to test whether the bot could write social media captions in a way that’s actually useful to a professional who crafts social media posts for a living.
ChatGPT can not only help me, it could also assist my job. These posts are a great example of the value that ChatGPT can provide. The posts appear as if they were written manually by an individual. Additionally, the bot added relevant hashtags to make them more readable. Here’s just a few examples (the query is followed by the response):
Create a post on social media about productivity
This is a great tip to increase productivity. Try breaking down tasks into manageable pieces. You’ll be able to stay on track and not feel overwhelmed. Also, completing each task on time can help you feel accomplished and motivated to go further. Productivity boosting is fun! #productivity #timemanagement
Create a post on social media about John Brandon’s SME.com column
Hello everyone! I just wanted to share this great article that John Brandon wrote on SME. Brandon talks about the importance of building strong teams and creating a culture that fosters trust and collaboration within an organization. Let me know your thoughts! #teamwork #leadership #forbes #johnbrandon
Make a Tweet about Elon Musk
The latest Tweet from @elonmusk just came through and it is amazing. It’s inspiring to see his passion for innovation, pushing the limits of possibilities and a desire to inspire others. Elon, keep it up! #elonmusk #innovation #spacex #tesla
In normal circumstances, I would add some caveats. It might be something about the grammar, or a mistake the bot made that wasn’t quite accurate.
The bot was easy to use and I continued testing it. (In case you’re wondering, I don’t plan to actually use ChatGPT myself to write social media posts, not because the posts are suspect or not useful — I just prefer to write them myself.)
Recent suggestions included creating a watermark to let us know that the bot has written some code or text. This idea may not come to fruition, but I suspect that many social media managers already use the bot for their accounts. Is it possible? You save time when the results sound natural and are human-like.
I’ll even venture to guess that a bot like this could go mainstream in 2023, helping us work more efficiently. It may be the first sign that AI will start to augment what we do, in a useful and practical manner.
I don’t see ChatGPT replacing an actual social media manager, since they do a lot of other work. Although the bot is able to write posts and schedule them, that makes it even more useful. I’ll be curious if ChatGPT helps them suceed.
