A new Twitter handle has been created by the world’s wealthiest man. Elon Musk is now known as “Lorde Edge,” a microblog user who has become a multi-billionaire entrepreneur. His location is Trollheim. Although the account’s name has been changed and it is now located in a fictional place, it remains a verified one. Musk has 62.8 millions followers on Twitter.

Although SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO Elon Musk didn’t explain why the name change was made, he did tweet a poll asking his followers whether they should sell Tesla stock. He explained that Tesla would be paying taxes for any gains. With 57% of over 3.5 million respondents voting for the “yes”, 42.1 percent said “no” and 41.9 percent voting “no” on Sunday afternoon.

Lorde Edge tweeted, “Much has been made recently of unrealized profits being a way of tax avoidance,” and suggested selling 10% of his Tesla stock.

Musk continues to be a vocal opponent of taxing unrealized gains on publicly traded securities for the richest Americans. According to a Democratic Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon proposal, any assets that increase in value would be taxed, even if the assets were not sold.

New Name – Same Elon?

On Twitter, many people reacted to the poll. They debated tax implications. However, they also noted Musk’s new moniker “Lorde Edge”.

Shibetoshi Nakamoto (@BillyM2k), co-creator cryptocurrency Dogecoin, tweeted, “lorde edge” as his theory.

Many have speculated Musk’s Twitter name-change is a prelude to big announcements. However, Scott Steinberg, social media expert and brand marketer, suggested it could be an aplay on edge-lord. This refers to anyone who influences a provocative or extreme individuala.

“Musk has shown himself to be quite the Internet provocateur – and this just shows the sheer level of attention played to his ability to do the outrageous,” Steinberg explained. This demonstrates the power he wields, and it is clear that he has a lot of fun doing so. His buttons seem to be fun.”

Sean Gallagher, a cybersecurity journalist and journalist (@thepacketrat), suggested that Musk’s Twitter change to “Lorde Edge” is painful.

Name Game

It was not the first occasion that the 50 year-old had changed his Twitter username. His Twitter name was changed to Elon Musk the 2nd in June. His initial name was “-1”.

The problem is that @LordeEdge is a Twitter user who signed up in May 2017. The account has only 16 followers but this number could increase due to confusion about Musk.

Musk’s username was not what raised eyebrows, but the odd selection of names. He and then-girlfriend, singer Grimes (real name Claire Boucher), named their son “X Æ A-12,” in reference to an aircraft built for the CIA in the 1960s. Grimes (@Grimezsz), explained the naming choice via a tweet, “•X, the unknown variable.”

•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)

•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. They are great in battle but they are not violent.

• (A=Archangel, my favorite song)”

The recent name change to Lorde Edge also highlights how the moves of the rich and famous – and Musk falls into categories – are so closely monitored on social media, while Musk shows his ability to control the narrative in a way that others could not hope to do.

Steinberg stated that “he’s seen both the benefits and disadvantages” of social media. Steinberg said that he knows his every move will be scrutinized. However, he enjoys the spotlight and all the controversy it causes. He seems to be keen on pushing the limits even further.
